Stonecutters Bridge is part of the project for Route 9 between Tsing Yi and Cheung Sha Wan. The bridge is located between the existing Container Terminal 8(CT8) and the future Container Terminal 9(CT9) currently under construction.

This section of Route 9 is a 7.6km long dual 3-lane highway providing a strategic link between North West Tsing Yi and West Kowloon. It comprises three major sections:

1. Ngong Shuen Chau Viaduct connecting to West Kowloon Highway
2. Nam Wan Tunnel and West Tsing Yi Viaduct
3. Stonecutters Bridge between CT8 and CT9

Route 9 is programmed to commence construction on site in mid 2002. The detailed design for the Nam Wan Tunnel, the West Tsing Yi Viaduct and the Ngong Shuen Chau Viaduct are being prepared by Ove Arup & Partners Hong Kong Limited under a current Design and Construction Assignment with Highways Department. The detailed design of Stonecutters Bridge will commence shortly after the announcement of the final result of the competition.
