The Competition:

The competition comprises the following stages:

Pre-Qualification:
22 November 1999 to 28 December 1999

Stage 1:

17 January 2000 to 28 February 2000

Stage 2:

18 April 2000 to 14 July 2000

Announcement of Results:

15 September 2000
 

The invitation to take part in stage 1 will be on the basis of an open, international call for bridge designers to express interest in taking part in accordance with the Pre-Qualification Submission Guidelines laid out by the Promoter.

Stage 1 will comprise 12 to 16 competitors. Each competitor is allowed to submit at most 2 proposals. At least 4 proposals will be selected for development in stage 2.

To partly cover the cost of preparing the stage 2 design proposals, competitors will receive HK$1,000,000 per proposal they are selected to develop. In addition the three best stage 2 proposals will receive prize money:

First prize:
HK$1,000,000

Second prize:

HK$300,000

Third prize:

HK$200,000

The Evaluation

The evaluation at each stage will be carried out in two independent Evaluation Committees with expert members selected by the Promoter:

An Executive Panel will, on the basis of the evaluation results, decide the winner and the runners-up of the competition.

The Reference Scheme

The winning proposal will be the Reference Scheme for the further design development for Stonecutters Bridge. The Promoter may also select other proposals for further design development. The further design development and subsequent construction supervision will be the subject of a separate consultancy assignment. The proposer of the Reference Scheme or of any other selected scheme will not necessarily be engaged by the Promoter to carry out any further design development. The engagement of consultants for the proposed consultancy assignment will be conducted in accordance with the local Engineering and Associated Consultants Selection Board (EACSB) procedures of the HKSAR.
